About This Website
This website has a number of aims.
Firstly, through the blog, I want to provide a source of ideas and thoughts about new and emerging technologies and what their relationship to education might be. This should serve the purposes of both keeping D&T teachers up-to-date with these new technologies and generating discussion about their likely impacts. There is no online discussion facility (at present), but responses to the blogging will be welcomed via the contact page and, with permission, may be published via the blog.
Secondly, through the news column, I want to provide up to date news on what the consultancy is up to. This is reinforced through the courses page where information, including application forms where relevant, on forthcoming courses is provided.
At the foot of the news column is a set of newsfeeds from various websites that I find interesting and that relate to the 'new and emerging technologies' theme of this site. Just for fun I've also included a newsfeed for the blog and news sections of this site that you can make use of.
Thirdly, I've taken the opportunity to place my publications online and, where possible, to provide PDFs of documents.
Finally I've tried to provide a bit of information about the kinds of things I'm involved in and, more importantly (to me at least!), the things that I'm interested in getting involved in.
I must take all responsibility for the content of this site and, in particular, any errors it may contain. The credit for all the technical finesse that the site contains goes to Lawrence Wo (without whom etc.); Lawrence is a research assistant in the Faculty of Education at the University of Manchester, a technical genius and a very nice man with far too much modesty.
If you wish to contact me about any aspect of this site, I'll be pleased to hear from you.
Update August 2007
The Fab@School blog was added - the welcome decribes its purpose.
Unfortunately, while installing this I rather broke the rest of the website which spen th latter part of 2007 and into 2008 in limbo.
Update February 2008
Thanks to Gary Herman of Keywords Associates Ltd here in Chorlton, not only has the php that drives the Fab@School blog been fixed so it does what it should, I can use the same WordPress tools to manage the main (Torben's) blog and the news on the 'front' page - so keeping everything up to date should be a much quicker affair.
